Missouri River Outdoor Expo

The Missouri River Outdoor Expo is held annually within the beautiful setting of Ponca State Park which is near Ponca, Nebraska. This 2,400 acre park is located along the picturesque Missouri National Recreational River. The activities at this event are provided within these natural settings and the new Resource and Education Center.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Scheels All Sports and other organizations are once again teaming together to provide the 5th Annual Missouri River Outdoor Expo on September 19 and 20, 2009. Over 42,000 people (most of which were families) attended last year's event.
The Missouri River Outdoor Expo is designed to inform, educate and recruit new members into the outdoor community along with rekindling the interests of those experienced in the outdoors. The Expo is for families and people of all skill levels from novice to seasoned outdoor enthusiasts. Everyone will find opportunities to learn about and participate in hands-on outdoor activities.
The Expo will feature hands-on activities, exhibits, seminars and demonstrations on topics such as fishing, hunting, game calling, camping, outdoor and game cooking, trapping, wildlife and the arts, outdoor survival, wildlife watching and optics, bird dog training, canoeing/kayaking, biking, outdoor photography, fish and wildlife management, live fish display, fly tying, conservation history, hunter ethics, firearms safety, habitat stewardship, shooting sports (shotgun, pellet rifle, muzzleloader, and archery), and many, many more.

All the activities at this event are free to the public. Prize drawings and special discounts will be offered to participants including 30 half-price Nebraska Youth Lifetime Hunting/Fishing Permits. A valid Nebraska Park Entry Permit is required. Free hayrack shuttles to different venues and through Ponca State Park's early fall colors are available. Expo hours are from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturday and 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday. Food vendors are available at this event.

Dog Training--Retrievers, pointers and flushers
Outdoor Cooking--Dutch oven cooking, fish cleaning and cooking and more
Camping--RV displays, tent camping and much more
Wildlife Management and Conservation--Law enforcement, habitat enhancement, big game management
Hunting--Waterfowl, pheasant, deer, turkey and predators
Fishing--Live fish displays, kids trout fishing, fishing displays and fly fishing
Trapping--Trapping techniques, fur trader camp and more
Boating--Boating safety, canoeing, kayaking, free Missouri River boat rides
Golf--Family golf opportunities at Highland Oaks Golf Course adjacent to the park, golf demos, contests and more
Wildlife Up-Close--Snakes, turtles, fish, bird banding
Hikers, Bikers and Riders--Backpacking, mountain biking, and horseback riding
Vendors will be selling products on-site related to most of the above activities.
